Job Summary

The Backhoe Operator will operate rubber tire backhoes to excavate trenches for utility duct banks and manholes in various locations around San Antonio.  The hourly pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00, based on experience. 

Essential Functions

Operate equipment under the direction of the supervisor. Slope and assist in installing and removing shoring from ditches and other related excavations. Observe pipe laying for safety reasons. Dig around and assist in exposing live utilities. Maintain sub-grade, and assist in setting upgrade and centerline. Load trucks in a safe and accident-free manner. Communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal hand signals while operating equipment. Handle 20’ pipe joints, will hand to other workers in ditch 4’ to 20’ deep. Handle 4x8x3/4” plywood. Assist in loading and unloading miscellaneous materials. Lead and assist in changing out backhoe buckets and hoe rams. Perform other labor-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills & Experience

At least 3 years of operating experience excavating trenches at depths of 5’-20’ Reliable transportation Physical ability to perform assigned labor-related tasks (climbing ladders, climbing in and out of ditches) Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds General labor skills Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools (hammers, sledgehammers, pry bars, screwdrivers, etc.)
