Back to search Location: St. Cloud, MN Department: Operations and Fleet Management Posted: 11/06/2024 Location Name: ATS Corporate - St. Cloud, MN Wage: Depends on Experience Summary The Heavy Haul Driver Manager is responsible to ensure high quality and profitable operation of the division, lead and develop a fleet of drivers in a deadline driven, fast paced, ever-changing, dynamic work environment. The Driver Manager is responsible to develop strong relationships with their fleet of drivers while achieving performance, training, safety, retention and service needs in accordance with company and department quality, utilization, and profit objectives. Education and Experience + One or two years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred. + Higher education (i.e. two- or four-year degree) and/or two years of general work experience or equivalent amount of experience in a customer driven environment. + Must be able to operate basic office machines including a computer. + Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. + Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal). + Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently. + Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects. + Must be analytical with the ability to apply data. + Must be proficient in responding to internal and external customer situations, responding to customer needs as required. + Must be able to both think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects. + Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Driver Management + Develop effective working relationships, from a distance, built on trust and respect. + Train, develop and manage fleet of drivers in support of ATS and departmental goals. + Partner with HR and Safety too accurately and timely report medical concerns and/or leave requests. + Conduct root-cause analysis when a failure occurs to identify solutions to eliminate problem in the future. + Address and effectively resolve performance issues when they occur. + Retention Management + Provide a superior level of service to the fleet of drivers. + Meet/exceed established turnover goal by balancing and managing the driver's professional and personal needs: home time, Up-in-Class desires, active/valid driver credentials, financial satisfaction (account balances, paychecks, average earnings, and advance requests), etc. while meeting ATS expectations. + Service Management + Assumes ownership of the life cycle of each load. + Proactively communicate with internal departments (planners, CSRs, safety, sales, etc.) the status of loads and any issues that may impact the overall relationship with the driver and ATS. + Effective management for optimum performance; ensure the driver arrives with the correct tools and equipment to haul the load, has sufficient log hours to meet load windows and proactively manage driver ETAs and PTAs. + Problem solve and trouble shoot loading and unload, utilizing available resources to manage load requirements; OD regulations, border regulations, port rules, customer specific driver qualifications, etc. + Safety Management + Lead, influence, and educate fleet on ATS Safety Culture to meet and/or exceed established Safety expectations. + Minimize accidents, moving violations and citations. + Log hour compliance. + Complete monthly random drug and alcohol tests. + Complete Annual in Person visits. + Complete monthly safety training tests. + CSA compliance. + Monitor driver performance daily + Daily coaching on LYTX events + Proactively identify safety hazards within the fleet. + Organize, conduct and lead Safety Assessments. + Production Management + Work with company planner to ensure load selection supports and aligns with production management and retention management objectives. + Respect driver's time by making sure their time at work is effectively utilized. + Coordinate driver directional requests when appropriate. + Coordinate mandates with driver within established timeframes. + Manage down time while maintaining productivity. + Log hour management and trip planning. + Accountable to effectively manage cost related to: + Damage, abuse, neglect + Fuel + Out of route + Miscellaneous and Securement Equipment + Layovers + Miscellaneous pay + Citations + In support of ATS's culture, all employees are expected to consistently, effectively and reliably perform in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our core competencies and behaviors (All Employee Competencies). + Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and infrequent travel may be required. + Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
