HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
Summary You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Lifting and Handling Department (C200), Crane Engineering Division (Code 210), Crane Maintenance Brance at Trident Refit Facility, Kings Bay (TRIFEFFAC-KB), of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY. Responsibilities You will be responsible for determining the cause of mechanical operating problems, traces and locates defects, and makes repairs to Weight Handling Equipment such as portal, dock, and fixed cranes. You will be responsible for performing structural fabrication to include bend, cut and shape structural components in support of repairs or replacement of such. You will be responsible for installing, testing, repairing, and making critical adjustments to various types of operational, load bearing and operational safety devices in accordance with written guidance or higher directives. You will be responsible for requiring driving and operating various types of government vehicles and material handling equipment in support of maintenance purposes. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: WG-11: Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling a variety of cranes and related equipment with capacities of up to 150 tons. Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, or maintaining any type of crane categorized as Category 1, 2, 3, or 4, to include repairs on various systems within this equipment such as diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, power trains, brakes, and 36- volt DC and lower electrical systems. Experience rebuilding individual components to like-new condition with a thorough understanding of engine systems including fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems, as well as governors and turbochargers. Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, sketches, and manufacturers handbook of a mechanical nature and well versed in equipment, instruments, and tools of the trade. WG-10: Experience troubleshooting and isolating hydraulic problems on various types of mobile cranes utilizing schematics and test equipment. Experience troubleshooting and repairing problems with batteries, starters, solenoids, relays, lights, gauges, load moment indicators, engine safety, and other electrical systems utilizing standard electrical test equipment. Experience installing, testing, repairing, and making critical adjustments to various types of operational. load bearing and operational safety devices in accordance with written guidance or higher directives. The work requires frequent standing, reaching, climbing, and crouching. They work on top of, under, and in tight compartments of equipment in cramped and awkward positions. Incumbent may be required to work at heights of 100 feed or more. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
