This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This positions is with 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center located at Fort Drum, NY. Responsibilities Repair, overhaul, and rebuild major assemblies, systems, such as engines, transmissions, drive line, hydraulic lifting, and positioning systems. Perform inspection of final work product by testing or operating equipment to ensure proper operation. Troubleshoot, inspect, test, diagnose and perform major repairs, overhaul and maintenance of a variety of powered support equipment such as generators, compressors, etc. Diagnose using test equipment and by visual examination. Inspect equipment to determine repair or replacement needs. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Drive trucks with up to and including 1 ton capacity for transportation to/from worksites. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common heavy mobile equipment mechanic tasks. I can operate hand tools and devices to work on heavy mobile equipment such as bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, locomotives, combat tanks, cranes, large missile transporters, fire trucks, and/or other construction equipment, material handling equipment, or powered support equipment. I can also operate trucks and/or other heavy mobile equipment to complete assigned tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands, walks, bends, works in awkward positions. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. Incumbent sometimes works in cramped areas. Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and lifting heavier items using jacks, hoists, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside. Inside, incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and loud noise. Outside, incumbent may on occasion be required to work in bad weather. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, etc. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and electrical shocks. Wears protective clothing and equipment as necessary. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
