About the Position: This position is a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector, WG-5803-11, with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade located in Fort Hunter Liggett, CA. Responsibilities Conduct inspections of heavy mobile equipment and vehicle components repaired by shop personnel. Conduct inspection on a variety of combustion powered automotive vehicles and trucks. Use technical manuals and manufacturer specifications to determine requirements. Evaluate work completed to ensure it has been completed in accordance with standards and specifications. Ensure quality control is maintained. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to Inspect - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and inspecting heavy mobile equipment to include utilizing, repairing, replacing, installing, or making adjustments to mobile equipment components and parts; utilizing technical manuals for repairs; and conducting various operational test to perform final inspection - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Inspect Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT - Frequently works while equipment is overhead and where parts inspected are in hard-to-reach places. This requires climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, crawling and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS - Works inside and outside, occasionally in bad weather. Subject to drafts, rain, heat, excessive noise, fumes, dirt, dust, mud and grease. Must stand on hard and damp surfaces for long periods of time. Is subject to cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, strain, skin irritations from fluids and fuels, broken bones, etc. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
