Overview PPL Electric Utilities is hiring into our Network Electrican Apprenticeship Program. This program includes approximately eight (8) weeks of training at PPL's training center in Allentown to be followed by on-the-job training at the respective work location. Successful candidates must attend all eight (8) weeks of training - time off is not permitted during this time frame. This is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). This is a union position within PPL. The successful candidates will become a member of IBEW Local 1600. The starting hourly rate for this position is $33.983. Successful candidates must meet a 30-mile residency requirement from their respective work location within six (6) months of start date and must be or become a PA resident. We are currently looking for qualified candidates who pass our preemployment testing as listed below in the following regions. Specific Service Center locations will be shared once candidates are selected to move forward in the hiring process and are invited for testing. Lehigh/Northeast Harrisburg/Lancaster Central/Susquehanna Successful completion of a physical and written assessment is required for these positions. Details will be provided upon review and selection of candidates. All invitations for testing and interviews will be sent via email. Responsibilities Performs manual labor at any work location including those areas containing non-exposed energized electrical equipment, and to prepare the employee for entrance into the UG Electrical Apprenticeship Program. Normally is responsible for own duties, but may direct others as necessary. This position can perform work requiring a limited degree of skill provided that the individual has demonstrated the ability. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to: Performs all the direct duties of the Laborer-FS. Performs non-asbestos insulation removal and assists with installation. Performs general clean-up work including asbestos insulation, steam cleaning, parts cleaning, and vacuuming (excluding hydro lasers). Drives CDL vehicles (excluding high reach equipment over 100 feet) and operates auxiliary mounted equipment, operates bucket trucks, line trucks, trenchers, skid loaders, and material handling equipment such as forklifts under de-energized conditions only. Does not set poles for distribution or transmission lines. Performs work from self-supporting structures of any height. Erects and performs work from scaffolds, spiders, or similar support devices. Performs work in the pulling and placing of distribution and transmission type cables in de-energized areas. Assists higher classifications in energized areas. Performs basic rigging such as moving or placing transformers, switching devices, and other equipment associated with underground and LTN systems. Performs paperwork associated with the job duties. Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Qualifications MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Successfully passing the EEI CAST test or its replacement. Successful completion of appropriate Laborer – FS units of instruction. Motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to obtain a CDL license within six (6) months. General knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work. Intelligence adequate to observe conditions, learn methods including basic computer-based applications pertaining to the job, and follow instructions. Strength and endurance to perform the above duties. Ability to obtain Asbestos Worker license. Ability to adhere to the Safety Rules applicable to the work performed. Ability to obtain respirator certification.
