Machine Duties
To obtain cultures monthly and prn from the Reverse Osmosis (RO) machines located at the Wilmington and Christiana Hospitals.To clean and disinfect the RO machines monthly and prn at the Wilmington and Christiana Hospitals.To obtain cultures monthly and prn on the portable dialysis machines located at both hospitals.To clean and disinfect the portable dialysis machines located at both hospitals.To provide minor maintenance on the dialysis machines.To maintain records of cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of dialysis machines.Nursing AssistanceTo perform escort duties as needed. This includes, but is not limited to transferring patients to and from the dialysis units.To move dialysis equipment and machines to other areas of the hospital.To control inventory by ordering supplies from both the hospital supply room and outside vendors.To stock patient care areas.To remove needles from the arterio-venous fistula.To assist with feeding patients.To assist with moving patients.Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.Performs other related duties as required.SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Interacts daily with the nurses, PCTs, and patients within the dialysis unit. Occasional contact with clinical engineering personnel and outside machine vendors. Direction/supervision of others:None
Direction/supervision received:Works under the direction of the nurse. Maintenance of the water systems and dialysis machines reviewed by the nurse manager or the clinical educator.Education and experience requirements:High school graduate required.
Must have graduated from Certified Dialysis Tech program or complete this program within 18 months of hire.
One to two years of experience working in a dialysis treatment setting strongly preferred.
Must have at least a minimum 1 year of patient care experience.
Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:Ability to discern colors.Ability to follow diagrams and detailed written instructions.Skill in organizing time in order to manage several different tasks.Ability to maintain records.Skill in communicationSpecial Requirements:
Must be willing to work at both Christiana & Wilmington Hospitals. On the job training. Some time flexibility required. Physical demands:Must be able to push dialysis machinery. Must be able to move patients.Working Hours:
36 hours weekly / 3-12hour shifts per week
Shift: ranges from Mon-Sat
Hours: 5am-5:30pm or 6am-6:30pm
3 Holidays per calendar year (either MLK, July 4th, & Thanksgiving or New Years, Memorial Day, & Labor Day).
Every other Saturday commitment
Location: Newark and Wilmington, Delaware
Working conditions:
Exposure to chemicals used to clean and disinfect dialysis equipment.
