High School Equivalency ABE HSE Teacher
HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City. The Adult Education Program is seeking a dynamic, hardworking educator who has significant experience working with diverse adult, non-traditional high school equivalency populations at a variety of ABE levels, including HSE. Knowledge of the New York State–approved Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), TABE testing, and NRS levels. Experience teaching HSE-related disciplines:  math, science, writing, reading, and social studies is required. Position available immediately: Classes are on Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Candidate must have experience using technology in the classroom, interdisciplinary adult education curricula, and utilizing a variety of assessment methods. Rate of Pay: $34.85 per hour Work Location: 27-40 Hoyt Avenue South Astoria, N.Y. 11102  Required work schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays evenings 6:00p.m - 9:00 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: + Meet learning outcomes prescribed by the funding source. + Teach ABE or High School Equivalency preparation courses, in all areas: Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and Writing. + Prepare/follow a detailed curriculum and utilize various curriculum resources. + Take daily attendance and maintain minimum student attendance as outlined by the contracting agency or funder + Maintain students’ files with documents pertaining to students’ progress. + Attend professional training sessions as prescribed by the Director/funding source.   Minimum Requirements: + Bachelor of Arts/Science degree, plus at least two (2) years of adult education and/or non-traditional teaching ABE and/or HSE, along with relevant adult education professional development. + Must have excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and relate to the student population. + The candidate will follow lesson plans left by the regular class teacher. + Open to working in a different class each day. + Follow through with scheduled assignments. + Take daily attendance and maintain minimum student attendance as outlined by the contracting agency or funder. + Maintain students’ files with documents pertaining to students’ progress. + Must model professional experience, attitude, and demeanor. + Must demonstrate an appreciation of diversity. + Must have excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and relate to the student population.
