Job Description The salary for this position starts at $16.50 hourly. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status. 1. Job Summary: The High Tunnel Lead is responsible to maintain the planting rotations, maintenance, and harvest times in the high tunnels and production field according to set schedules. Develop and deliver high tunnel related educational programming for camp participants at Camp St. Croix. Teach food production and small farming to camp participants for one class time per day, and work alongside participants to accomplish the day’s tasks. Lead Pizza Night on the Farm. Teach participants where their food comes from, how to grow it at home, how to cook it, and how good it tastes! Teach participants about growing food and properly eating it directly relates to healthy living, and influences a healthy mind, body, and spirit. 2. Essential Functions: + Assist with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting the high tunnels and field according to set schedules. (2, 30’ x 72’ high tunnels, 15’ x 50’ high tunnel, and eight 30”x50’ outdoor rows.) + Teach camp participants who come to the high tunnel and handle all educational aspects encompassing class time. + Cook fresh vegetables with camp participants. + Lead Pizza Night on the Farm. + Ensure high aesthetic standards in the space, which will require mowing and maintenance outside of educational time. + Understand the value and quality of organic produce and handle it appropriately pre- and post-harvest. + Support other aspects of the farm, including but not limited to the Discovery Garden, animals, farm store, and market nights. 3. Relationships: This position reports to the Camp Program Director and works closely with Program Directors, the Site Manager, alumni, and the Canoe Fleet Management Committee. This role represents the camp to external partners and stakeholders, fostering relationships to enhance camp operations and visibility. 4. Qualifications: Required + Experience in high tunnel farming, horticulture, agriculture, horticultural or agricultural education, sustainability and natural resources, environmental education, STEM, or Youth Development. + Ability to cook with vegetables, basic cooking skills, a basic understanding of flavors. + Ability to work with and welcoming to people of all ages, abilities, and cultures. + Experience working with children of all ages. + An inherent desire to do life-changing work, while listening carefully to others, patiently serving, and being open and kind + Staff are required to follow policies and procedures of YMCA Camp St. Croix Preferred + Bi/multilingual 5. Work Conditions: + Seasonal summer position. Programming begins June 1st and runs through September 1st. + Part-time hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a-12:00p, 20 hours/week + Ability to stand and walk for up to six hours outdoors, be prepared for exposure to a variety of weather conditions, and be able to complete responsibilities in those conditions. + Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 6.
