International Corporation, a leading North American truck manufacturer with great products, a strong market position and best-in-class distribution network, has an exciting new opportunity for a High Voltage Battery System Component Assembly Engineer to join our join our Energy Storage Value Creation team. This is currently a hybrid position working 3 days in office and 2 days work from home a week at Rochester Hills, MI; Elmendorf, near San Antonio, TX; or Lisle, IL. The HV Battery System Component Assembly Engineer in this role will be responsible for overseeing the assembly of localized components and ensuring their seamless integration into the overall RESS assembly process. This position requires a keen understanding of part function, form, variants, and how to best optimize them for assembly and manufacturability. The work will include collaboration with our suppliers on externally sourced battery solutions in addition to co-development work with our TRATON partners. Candidate must be willing and able to travel to support supplier development and integration activities.
Responsibilities Component Assembly Oversight: Lead the assembly process for localized components used in battery modules and packs, ensuring adherence to design specifications, manufacturing constraints, and quality standardsIntegration into RESS Assembly: Collaborate closely with the broader assembly team to integrate localized components effectively into the overall RESS assembly process, ensuring compatibility and functionalityManagement of prototype flowPart Quantities, variants, and alternatives: Manage part quantities, variants, and replacement strategies to support assembly flexibility, production ramp-up, and continuity of supplyRegulatory Compliance: Ensure all assembly processes meet regulatory requirements and standards, including safety protocols and quality assurance measures specific to battery componentsQuality Assurance: Develop and implement robust quality control procedures for component assembly, including inspection and testing protocols to maintain high standards of product qualityProcess Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in component assembly, working closely with manufacturing teams to implement solutionsSupplier Collaboration & Readiness: Willingness to travel to supplier locations to oversee component production, resolve technical issues, and support supplier development and qualification activitiesDocumentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of component assembly processes, test results, corrective actions, and compliance records, ensuring traceability and alignment with quality management systemsProblem Solving: Investigate and resolve assembly-related issues using structured problem-solving techniques, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on project timelinesTeam Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including design engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, and operations to achieve project objectives and milestones effectivelyOrganize and participate in component supplier DFMEA reviewsWork with validation teams to develop, execute, and assess component DVP&RsProvide start-up and on-going support to the North American RESS Assembly Plant Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering TechnologyAt least 5 years of experience in product design/developmentOR
