HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN SUPERVISOR
Summary You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN SUPERVISOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, PWD CHINA LAKE, NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will ensure that the needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is available to support planned work. You will answer leaders' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives and provide the needed information or decisions to the leader on issues/problems that arise during execution of work activities. You will provide information to product and operations managers on the status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations or issues. You will assure that safety practices and requirements are clearly communicated and followed by all personnel and that housekeeping rules and policies are adhered to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. You will plan work, plan assignments based on schedules, establish deadlines, coordinate work, and determine the number of workers needed to accomplish projects. You will be responsible for a wide range of personnel matters concerning subordinates, i.e. performance ratings, leave requests, disciplinary actions, time, attendance and union related paperwork. You will inspect the work of other High Voltage electricians, write and review reports and work sequences. You will use high voltage electric power- generating and distribution equipment such as generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems. You will complete distribution system of the activity including normal routing, parallel feeders, possible interconnections, and capacity of lines and equipment You will use transformers, series/parallel circuits, line loading/line losses, and dielectric or conductive operating limitations of equipment, to calculate circuit values. You will determine when operating limitations of equipment are exceeded, or recognize excessive current flow, etc. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Travel for 1-2 days per month may be required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger from high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, broken bones, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to heat and noise when working in substations or power-generating facilities, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes. May be subject to electrical burns while working around high voltage electrical lines, broken bones from falls from poles, and strains from awkward work positions. May be exposed to chemicals -such as insulation oil from transformers and oil switches. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Supervisor primarily works in an office setting or conducts site visits to oversee and evaluate the performance of high voltage electrician team crews as well the material condition of electrical distribution systems, components or facilities. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods while supervising the installing, repairing, and testing of electrical distribution systems and components.
