High Voltage Technician

**Purpose and Scope:**
Meet all electrical/high voltage requirements to support the mission on Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF). This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Maintain and repair generators including engine, switchgear, batteries, manual switch or ATS systems, and auto start systems.
+ Perform preventive maintenance for applicable assets IAW UFC 3-540-07 Chapter 5 (Reliability Maintenance-Centered Practices).
+ Perform maintenance and cycling of all generators. Switch mission power from prime to backup where available to ensure units are operational and support mission requirements.
+ Operate, maintain (e.g., replacing Government provided batteries), and repair all uninterruptible power units and associated switchgear to provide power within design limits of instrumentation equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendation.
+ Operate and provide full-service maintenance of the Wind Turbine Generator (WTG), utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and associated electrical distribution systems.
+ Generate an inventory list (include information on make, model, and size) of all RPIE and portable generators (to include light carts) annually.
+ Implement and document a thermography program for all critical electrical equipment, including substations, transformers and circuit breakers.
+ Mark all electrical equipment, lines, and panel boxes IAW National Electrical Code, UFC 3-560-01, and AFI 32-2001.
+ Repair exterior lighting systems, including walkways, streets, parking lots, perimeter fence lines, security areas and bases, poles, fixtures, and controls.
+ Maintain and repair power manholes, vaults, aerial power to include poles, cabling, transformers and associated hardware, and underground cable systems.
**Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Must be qualified IAW AFMAN 32-1065.
+ U.S. certified high voltage technician and has vendor specific training on all AAAF powerhouse CAT generators.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience with power generating systems, controls and distribution of at least 10 Mega Watts.
+ Ability to read and write English is required.
+ Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
+ Strong ability to work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
+ Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
+ Must be a USN to fill this position.
+ Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and passport.
+ Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
+ Prior overseas government contracting experience preferred.
**Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:**
+ Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.
+ Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds.
+ Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
+ Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
+ The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
+ Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
+ Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
+ Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
**OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES**
