The State of Connecticut (https://portal.ct.gov/) , Department of Transportation ( DOT (https://portal.ct.gov/dot?language=en\_US) ) is accepting applications for an exciting Highway Safety Seasonal Worker (Seasonal Worker) (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=5704VR&R1=&R3=) position in the Bureau of Policy and Planning within the Office of Highway Safety. This seasonal position is an opportunity to gain valuable experience at the Department of Transportation that positively impacts our communities.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
+ Full Time, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day.
+ Seasonal role with a nticipated start date in May 2025, and ending by September 30, 2025.
+ Monday-Friday, First Shift.
+ Positions based in Newington, CT.
THE ROLE
The Highway Safety Seasonal Worker is responsible for assisting with various safety programs in the Highway Safety Office. Efforts within this office contribute to the development of the Triennial Highway Safety Plan and the Annual Highway Safety Report which ensures compliance with Department policies, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines, and relevant federal laws and regulations. The Highway Safety Seasonal Worker will work closely with program leads to assist in providing guidance to law enforcement agencies and grantees through communication and partnerships. This position will assist in formulating goals and objectives for addressing safety issues associated with the programs overseen by the office. This position will work collaboratively with the CT Safety Research Center to query and analyze highway safety data utilizing Connecticut’s Crash Data Repository. Additionally, this position will review, evaluate and monitor Highway Safety grants for conformance with reporting requirements budgetary parameters and program efficiency. The Highway Safety Seasonal Worker in the Highway Safety Office would gain experience in fulfilling the following duties :
+ Assist in review and approval of grant applications for various projects.
+ Assist in review and processing of enforcement reimbursement claims.
+ Assist in review and processing of claims.
+ Assist in performing project monitoring review activities.
+ Assist in field monitoring of enforcement efforts.
+ Review monthly activity reports from grantees.
+ Participate in various virtual conferences, webinars and meetings.
+ Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum and maximum hourly rates will be subject to the following criteria:
+ Returning Seasonal Workers may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
OR
+ Experienced workers in the specific functional area with another employer may be credited with such time on an equivalent basis to seasons worked and granted the same additional compensation up to the maximum hourly rate.
OR
+ Undergraduate or graduate students may be granted additional compensation of up to $.50 more per hour (up to the maximum hourly rate) for each full year of completed education on the basis of 30 semester hours equaling one (1) year.
NOTE: Determination of hourly rate is based on the above criteria. Additional compensation is based on only one criterion. It is not intended for individuals to receive additional compensation through application of the multiple criteria listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Academic history in English, Communications or Marketing, Urban or Regional Planning, Political Science, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, or Criminology with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
+ Experience or training with technical writing and editing experience through course work, work experience, or internships.
+ Experience or training with Project management through course work, work experience, or internships.
+ Experience or training with grant processing through course work, work experience, or internships.
+ Experience or training with data queries, data comparison, and analysis of data through course work, work experience, or internships.
+ Experience or training with Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), or similar software through course work, work experience, or internships.
+ Experience or training communicating and working collaboratively within a team and with external groups. through course work, work experience, or internships
+ Experience meeting deadlines, organizational and time management skills.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Incumbents in this class assigned to recreational activities must be able to perform emergency first aid as needed and certain positions will require a current Standard First Aid Certificate.
+ Incumbents in this class assigned as bus drivers or operators of a motor vehicle must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator License to drive a bus and/or a Motor Vehicle Operators License as necessary.
+ Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
