HIM Coder 2
Job Summary The HIM Coder 2 is under the direction of the Supervisor of Health Information Management via the Coding Coordinator, performs accurate and timely coding and abstracting of all outpatient and inpatient medical records. Assures proper diagnoses are documented on patient charts. Maintains policies and procedures and participates in performance improvement activities. Regulatory Requirements High school graduate or GED. At least (3) years healthcare coding experience. Registered Health Information Technical (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) credentials required or within six months of hire. Prior EMR experience (experience with Meditech strongly preferred). Demonstrated expertise working with multiple cross-functional departments is also preferred. Language Skills Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. Skills Actively participates in Service Excellence program activities. Demonstrates understanding of support of Service Excellence. Strives to develop skills and techniques to improve and maintain customer service. Serves our customers and provides high quality service with care and courtesy. Aims to exceed the expectations of customers. Accepts being an ambassador of Mary Rutan Hospital and consistently displays a friendly, helpful, professional and positive attitude to all customers. Behaves professionally and respectfully with co-workers and management. Ensures that all patient and employee information is kept confidential. Does not discuss patients and their care in public areas or outside of the hospital. Accepts responsibility and accountability for the job and takes ownership of mistakes and aims to make immediate improvements.

Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and to effectively anticipate and respond to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment. A demonstrated ability to use PC based office productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel) as necessary; general computer skills necessary to work effectively in an office environment. Must be able to work remotely as a self motivated individual and be able to work independently.
