** CERTIFICATIONS: CCS required. CPC can be substituted for the outpatient auditor. RHIT, RHIA preferred. **

JOB SUMMARY: Reviews medical records for coding accuracy (I10 and CPT) and DRG (CMS or APR) assignment. Develops and provides a structured reporting and education process for HIM coders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reviews Records Reviews inpatient medical records for coding accuracy. Review outpatient records for coding accuracy and/or charge accuracy. Educates Educates HIM Coding Staff on coding conventions, chart review techniques and idiosyncracies of DRGs (CMS and APR). Educates on CPT and ICD10. Reports Reports results of coding audits to HIM Management. Teamwork Demonstrates professional responsibility and fosters teamwork, Performance Improvement Continually looks to improve work performed by self. Looks to improve processes both internal and external. Timeliness Ensures that emails, queries, audits and reports are completed timely.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications/Requirements Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field Education/Knowledge: Experience: 7+ years. CERTIFICATIONS: CCS required. CPC can be substituted for the outpatient auditor. RHIT, RHIA preferred.
