Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a HIM Coordinator.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing work in an administrative capacity within the scope of the Health Information Management department operations and being the first line response in directing requestor s to appropriate areas for accessing health information Considering the many facets of the organization ensuring requestor s are most efficiently directed to obtain necessary information is the focus of this role This includes triaging all incoming requests via email fax portal phone regular mail and any other modalities It will be necessary to understand the many different areas where information is accessible and provide the best guidance in each unique circumstance Ensures that health information is maintained in accordance with established NYU Medical Center policies and procedures The Joint Commission TJC standards and regional state and federal guidelines

Job Responsibilities:

Maintains contact with sections in the department and other NYUMC departments under minimal supervision Plans and coordinates interrelated activities effectively and efficiently according to schedule Schedules meetings and conference calls and coordinates projects and the HIM department operations Attends meetings and participates on committees as required; prepares minutes as required Assists the HIM Department management team with collection of data review and analysis of data to satisfy the projects requirements Performs monitoring of multiple systems queues and reports recommends steps and updates and summarizes data and statistics for the department Obtains appropriate data sufficient to satisfy the project requirements Utilizes appropriate sources to complete the assignment Submits data to the HIM Director Assistant Director or HIM Systems Manager Intricate understanding of all possible areas information can be accessed nbsp; This includes understanding where records exist to best direct requestors where and how to obtain nbsp; E G Health Information Management Faculty Group Practice voluntary physician offices vital statistics Radiology etc Constant monitoring of emails faxes online portal phones and other modalities Analyzing the need of each incoming request to best direct the requestor to the appropriate place Responding to all inquiries from patients and staff members and instructs them in the appropriate methods for requesting information Forwarding authorizations to appropriate areas once determination is made Promoting use of technology mainly via online portals and providing assistance to navigate available tools nbsp; This includes explaining benefits and other features Care everywhere Radiology results and sharing access of MyChart Granting electronic access to information after validating authenticity and need Answer phone calls regarding discharge dates from insurance companies etc Receiving CareEverywhere emails and updating in Epic Reviewing and granting MyChart Proxy access Working with MyChart /Epic to develop and update training guides as needed Working with Merge Center to identify potential data integrity issues which are causing MyChart issues Designating specific workstations/training area where requestors can login access and print records in the department Developing marketing materials handouts/posters/email templates to promote online portal access nbsp; Assists HIM Managers with ongoing projects related to management of patient identity EMR reviews documentation audits documentation scanning demographic and clinical information correction processes in electronic systems and clinical documentation amendments Monitors assignments to ensure neatness accuracy and timely completion Ensures that tasks are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures Trains employees effectively in the procedures of the department and pertinent Medical Center policies Offers continuing guidance and assistance to employees on work activities procedures and performance related issues as appropriate Ensures that the managers are kept aware of the performance of each employee on an ongoing basis Keeps managers apprised of situations which may require disciplinary action Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor s Degree or an equivalent combination of academic and experience background in Health Information Management Information Technology or related field Knowledge of computer systems word processing database and spreadsheets Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
2 4 years of experience in a Health Information Management Department at Acute Care Hospital Strong computer skills proficiency in EMR systems experience with Epic HIM modules Knowledge of medical terminology Understanding of documentation requirements in accordance with The Joint Commission standards and NYS DOH Rules and Regulations RHIT or RHIA credentials Excellent customer service skills

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $62,400.00 – $62,400.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
