Job Description

 

Purpose: The Health Information Technician/Specialist collects and prepares documents of medical records for patient continuum of care, coding and reimbursement activities, physician record completion and record management for the electronic legal health record.  This position ensures that medical records are maintained in accordance with the hospital's Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and other accrediting organization standards. Position Qualifications/Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: Must possess relevant experience in clerical duties (i.e. general computer skills) sufficient for individual development to the level of independent functioning with minimal direction.  A trainee is acceptable provided the individual meets the established work standards within the first three months of employment in this position.  General knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Please Note: This position does require working every other weekend with a co-worker as document imaging duties are required 7 days per week.
