Position Summary The HIM Technician is responsible for assisting with all types of department functions, by providing secretarial support, and performing clerical duties. The HIM Technician must have complete knowledge of all HIM computer applications including the electronic health record and the clinical information system. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Credentials State Required: Not applicable. GPRMC Required/Preferred: Not applicable. Physical Demands Sit six hours per day. Stand and/or walk occasionally. Bend, stoop, and crouch occasionally. Reach from the floor to overhead occasionally. Ability to hear, speak, and see within standard limits. Lift 5 – 20 pounds frequently. Carry 5 – 20 pounds frequently. Push and/or pull 5 – 20 pounds frequently. Essential Functions Assess EMR work queues to verify if medical records are missing dictated reports (History & Physical, Consults, op notes, and Discharge Summaries, etc). Demonstrates the ability to; run all transcription systems to include M*Modal Fluency for hold queue monitoring, PS360 and transcribe all Diagnostic Imaging reports, edits, addenda, etc. Transcribe all pediatric echoes to McKesson which uploads to EPIC. MONC abstracting to EPIC from Allscipts and Chartmaxx via Maestro that required edits. (some MT only) Demonstrate the ability of maintaining deficiency analysis workflow in EMR by assigning deficiency analysis to providers from various work queues. Validating all required elements. Demonstrate the ability to gather medical records from (ER, Cardiac Rehab, Diagnostic Imaging, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors), prep, scan, index, delete and rescan EMR. Return medical records that are not compliant to appropriate areas, (no labels, incomplete releases, etc) Monitor and assist provider(s) when necessary with maintaining current EPIC in-basket and outpatient documentation/transcription. Demonstrate the ability to; run reports out of EPIC for required statistical reporting to the HIM Manager. Answer any and all questions asked by medical staff regarding EMR chart completion without allowing the release of any original chart documentation outside the department. Monitor EPIC in basket for all Proxy requests. Process all Proxy requests in paper or electronic format within required four business days. Then scan document into correct record. Greet, direct and assist personnel and the general public. This includes demonstrating competency in the release of information (EMR) pursuant to applicable GPHealth policies and procedures, state and federal statues, and regulation. Process ROI requests. This position requires first-rate public relation skills, superb inter-personal relationship ability, and computer literacy. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe EMR care. Actively participates in training and educational opportunities. This may include membership in professional organizations. Performs all functions as may be assigned by the Health Information Manager.
