Job Responsibilities 

 

Resolves problems or communicates unresolved problems to the staff/management while maintaining coworker confidentiality. Ensures cytology/histology request forms include all pertinent patient information, attending/ordering physician and correct anatomical site. Ensures proper stain levels are maintained, covers all staining solutions and mounting media when not in use and stores them at the proper temperature. Identifies/properly documents unacceptable specimens and properly disposes of specimens when completed. Obtains/processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification, assisting histology technicians and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure the quality preparation of all specimens. Process specimens in appropriate processors/programs to ensure maximum quality of specimen processing. Receives, processes and prepares histologic and cytologic specimens by using standard operating procedures to ensure quality test results for cytologist/pathologist diagnosis. Ensures final preparation products are free of procedural variance artifacts. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements 

Education - High School diploma equivalent Work Schedule - Either morning or late afternoon coverage may be requested. This PRN position will not include weekends.
