Histology Group Lead - Tampa, FL - Monday-Friday 12:00AM - 8:30AM

Pay Range: $31.06+ per hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The position is intended for individuals with prior experience working as a histotechnologist and possesses ASCP certification in Histotechnology. The individual in this position will perform all routine histopathology functions, handle escalated issues and troubleshoot quality issues.  The individual provides supervisory level coverage for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory in the supervisor’s absence.


Assists the supervisor or manager in the day-to-day operation of the histology lab on the assigned shift.  Helps to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the department.Capable of performing all of the duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnologist II.Confer with and /or make recommendations to the supervisor concerning the operation of the department including policies, procedures, and equipment applications.Provide technical instructions, training and guidance to technicians/technologists, students and lab aides in techniques, instrumentation, and organization of work.Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, etc. after completing training on non-gynecological specimen types.  This includes specimen preparation of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimensAssist supervisor in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment/instrumentation.Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, and document all quality control activities; has the ability to recognize outliers and correct them.Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting and staining of tissue specimens.May be required to develop, execute, or validate new procedures.Be capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and resolve or immediately report to histology supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.Assist supervisor with facilitation of departmental training, competency assessments and continuing education.Provide input to the supervisor for employee performance reviews.Maintain the daily operation of the shift in the absence of the histology supervisor.Assist supervisor with special projects, as assigned.Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Work Experience:

3 years Histology experience.  6 years of experience are required for any individual providing supervisory coverage in a New York State licensed laboratory.

Preferred Work Experience:

6 years of histopathology experienceImmunohistochemistry experience

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

Knowledge:

Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Policy for Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician and Histology SupervisorIf performing Immunohistochemistry testing, meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Immunohistochemistry Testing SOP.
