The Position:
SUMMARY: The Histology Manager is responsible for the supervision and oversight of the histology lab. Responsibilities include all aspects of operations, including training personnel, implementing workflow and software process improvements; coordination of quality assurance program; ensuring compliance with state and national regulatory agencies; and interfacing with other departments including laboratory, Pre-Analytical and the pathology, supply chain and client services. The position is responsible for maintaining efficient processes as they relate to company goals. The Manager will provide direct supervision to supervisors, technologists, technicians, associates, and assistants to include workload assignments, training, resolution of technical problems, staffing, scheduling, and other disciplinary measures.
Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
Performs the highest quality histological procedures related to the microtomy, mounting, and staining of specimens for microscopic interpretation. Ability to confidently and rapidly cut and mount high quality paraffin embedded sections Preparing microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes, including embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include paraffin processed tissue. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients. Files paraffin blocks and microscopic slides. Prepares solutions and reagents for automated stainers. Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QC/QA monitors. Must be able to troubleshoot areas of processing, microtomy, staining and equipment. Performs and documents scheduled preventative maintenance. Performs training, competency, and evaluations as needed. Understands and follows all safety guidelines. Familiar with CAP and CLIA regulations. Performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOP’s. Strives to maintain a positive work environment. Demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully perform as a team member in a constantly changing environment. Participates in all continuing education programs required to keep certification current, if applicable. Handling and disposing of hazardous non-hazardous materials. Performs all other assigned duties as directed by management. Must have the capability of flexing schedule to accommodate workload to include weekend coverage. Perform all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required: BA/BS degree; BS in chemical, physical, or biological science, or medical technology preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician. Minimum 1 year supervising people. Required: Certification: HT(ASCP) or HTL (ASCP). Knowledge of CLIA, New York, CAP and OSHA regulatory requirements. Maintains continuing education units required for maintaining the BOC.OTHER SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity and visual acuity for handling and processing specimens. Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including gloves, lab coats, and safety glasses. Repetitive movement of fingers (typing and/or writing). Sitting, with occasional walking, standing, stooping, and moving about.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
