Histology Technician
Overview Fairview Health Services is looking for a Histology Technician at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank. At M Health Fairview our Histology Technicians work as part of a diverse team to produce high quality slides for microscopic evaluation. Our team members rotate through a variety of responsibilities including embedding, microtomy, routine hematoxylin and eosin staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and whole slide imaging. We serve a diverse patient population including pediatric and transplant patients and work with a variety of tissue types including kidney, liver, prostate, and G.I. biopsies, bone marrows, cell blocks, dermatology specimens, and routine surgical cases. Responsibilities Job Description Follows standardized procedures to create slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists using both routine histology and advanced staining techniques. Adheres to system standards to ensure regulatory requirements are met and patient safety is prioritized. Uses education and experience to troubleshoot failed stains and instrument issues, escalating appropriately as needed. Participation in process improvement projects, working toward meeting department goals, and ongoing responsibilities related to lab safety, regulatory compliance, lab supplies, or training students as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or 60 semester hours with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include both) from a regionally accredited college or university. Qualified to work in a highly complexity laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA ’88). Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification such as HT (ASCP). If not certified at time of hire, must acquire certification within 12 months. Preferred Qualifications Prefer one year of experience as a histology technician in a coordinated healthcare environment.
