Histopathology Technician - Translational Medicine

The Opportunity:

 In this role, you will report to the Supervisor, Onsite Services and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team of over 1,500 on- and off-site expert personnel – and our customers – to perform customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Waltham, MA

Shift: Mon – Fri, 7:30 am – 4 pm

Wage: $26-29 per hour

What we’re looking for:

A bachelor’s degree in a scientific field required.

Previous experience working in a laboratory environment required.

Knowledge and experience in histopathology, especially tissue sections (microtomy), and digital slide scanning.

Microsoft Office experience required with proficiency in Excel and Teams.  Experience working with sample management LIMS software a plus.

Exceptional planning and organizational skills with meticulous eye for detail.

Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively.

Problem-solving capabilities & confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service possible.

Self-motivated, energetic, able to work on own initiative or within a team to meet strict deadlines.

Ability to deal effectively and courteously with requests and responding to queries ensuring compliance with standard procedures and practices.

Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.

Excellent time management skills, ability to be flexible and handle multiple responsibilities/tasks.

Experience working with EHS policies and procedures.

How you will thrive and create an impact:

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will handle the following tasks:

Tissue sectioning (microtomy)

Macro dissection of tissues on slides to isolate regions of interest.

Perform basic Histology Stains (Hematoxylin, Eosin, Vimentin, etc....)

Slide scanning to generate digital images for image analysis.

Responsible for day to day upkeeping of various histology equipment for the Translational Pathology Group

Management of laboratory consumables

Execute routine Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining.

Adhere to SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) regulations, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) policies, Laboratory Compliance standards and follow all pertinent Protocols, Work Instructions, Guidance and Risk Assessments.

Work closely with the scientists in the Translational Medicine labs to receive, accession and track samples from internal Biobanks.

Responsible for tracking human samples in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) systems used by Translational Medicine labs.

Independently use sample inventory methods and assist in continuous improvement of our processes for sample handling, requisition, sample tracking and provide training and support for use of LIMS systems to scientists when required.

Be an effective team member in supporting projects to meet their objectives.
