The schedule for this opportunity is Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am - 6:30 pm. 

The Position:

The Histotechnician primary responsibility is receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist.  This may include logging, batching, cutting, mounting and staining procedures.  Responsibilities include all aspects of operations, including : training personnel, implementing workflow and software process improvements; coordination of quality assurance program; ensuring compliance with state and national regulatory agencies; and interfacing with other departments including laboratory, Pre-Analytical and the pathologist. The position is responsible for maintaining efficient processes as they relate to company goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Working under general direction to precisely and accurately conduct a variety of routine and specialized histology procedures. Researching, troubleshooting, and resolving histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires you to produce the highest quality of microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, and H&E staining, and equipment maintenance Preparing microscopic slides on human tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include paraffin processed tissue Quality control and quality assurance procedures Slide organization, prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications Processing specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry Performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOP’s Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment in designated area. This includes cleaning equipment, minor troubleshooting and reporting any irregularities in operation to supervisor/manager Who You Are:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in science highly preferred Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) required At least 2 years of experience in high complexity clinical laboratory testing, preferably in molecular diagnostics Ability to confidently and rapidly cut and mount high quality tissue sections from a variety of tissue types including needle biopsies Maintains continuing education units required by California Department of Health Services Must be meticulous and detail oriented Experience managing people a plus Experience with all major brands of histology equipment a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs Repetitive movement of fingers (typing and/or writing) Sitting, with occasional walking, standing, stooping and moving about Exposure to general office environment conditions Talking and hearing Hearing Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

Pay range$32—$36 USD
