Trinity Health Of New England is looking for an experienced Histotechnician Specialty Stains to join our team of mission-driven healthcare innovators.
You would be responsible for performing routine and non-routine activities involved in histologic preparations. Troubleshoots minor equipment failures, prepares reagents, solutions, and control slides. Performs Special Staining procedures. Prepares reports and ensures that quality control criteria are approved by the pathologist. May provide training and modification of SOP’s pertaining to Special Stains.
What You Will Do:
Orienting and embedding processed histological tissue.
Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures.
Maintains and performs special stains for histologic differentiation of selected tissue elements, entities and microorganisms providing valuable information to pathologists in the evaluation of numerous abnormal or disease conditions.
Ensures the quality of dyes through independent testing according to appropriate rigorous chemical and performance criteria and SOP’s.
Ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples. Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
Prepares slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
Performs cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
Prepares solutions and reagents for special stain procedures. Obtains and validates tissue used in special stains.
May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures. May obtain and prepare control material used in IHC procedures for validation.
Position Hours:
40 hours, evening shifts
Minimum Requirements:
Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry(must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory* within the last ten years.
Must have at least 1 yr Histotechnician with specialty stains
HT ASCP required.
Must have experience in the following areas: Fixation, Microtomy, Processing, Staining, IHC
