POSITION SUMMARY:

The Histology Technician performs the various procedures employed to generate microscopic slides for our Pathologists.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Twelve (12) months of training in an approved and accredited school of histology is preferred. American Society of Clinical Pathologists registered or eligible preferred. At least one (1) year of clinical histology experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Have at least one (1) year of histology experience preferred.

COMPETENCIES:

Must be able to read, speak and write using the English language.

Processes specimens according to identified procedures in the gross area. Properly identifies patients throughout the accessioning process.  Enters and verifies correct patient demographic information from the requisition. Performs tissue embedding.  Properly identifies patients throughout process.  Prepares slides and stains according to SOP. Maintains equipment and reagents as identified on maintenance schedules. Documents all equipment maintenance. Troubleshoots equipment and procedures and demonstrates a good working knowledge of equipment functions. Performs Quality Control according to established procedures. Meets or exceeds the quality guidelines and turnaround times as established by our Pathologists.
