Position Responsibilities:

Proficient in performing all routine histology including cassetting, embedding, microtomy and H&E staining.   Performs and documents Quality Control.   Reports significant deviations to the supervisor/manager.  Documents corrective action.Organizes work to maximize productivity and efficiency, meeting departmental workload average (24 blocks per hour cutting and 60 blocks per hour embedding).  Performs special stains, immunohistochemically stains or immunofluorescence stains,  and prepares solutions , including dilutions of antibodies per departmental SOP.  Performs frozen sections with acceptable quality.   Meets departmental turnaround time of 20 minutes 95% of the time.Performs and documents routine maintenance; takes corrective action when equipment failure occurs.  Notifies the supervisor when Clinical Engineering must be called.Maintains minimum inventory of reagents/supplies to ensure continuous workflow and sufficient supplies for the next day.Follows laboratory protocol regarding the storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and biohazardous waster.Cleans and decontaminates workstation per departmental protocol.Provides assistance to co-workers and/or  works alternative shifts/hours as needed or requested.Performs duties in an independent manner.Consult the supervisor / manager or charge tech to determine the appropriate source of action when unusual situation occur.Reviews work lists throughout the shift and addresses pending items.Communicates and documents any unusual occurrences or deviations from routine operations in the Communication Log or to the supervisor, pathologist or designee.

Qualifications:

Licensed by the State of Florida (or eligible) in appropriate specialties - national certification preferredCommensurate with licensure requirements
