HIV Test Counselor New York, NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York+NY+USA+10018) • Testing Center Job Type Full-time Description TheHIV Test Counselorwill conduct counseling, testing and referrals for participants in the off-site and on-site settings. They will engage in outreach efforts to the priority populations. They will also conduct screening for social and biomedical referral needs, and facilitate linkage and navigation to needed services. Essential Job Functions The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job: + Provide HIV counseling and testing pursuant to Article 27-F of the NYS Public Health Law for members of priority populations + Provide pre- and post-test STI counseling to clients, including but not limited to syphilis, hepatitis C, gonorrhea and chlamydia + Assist clients in assessing risk and developing a personal risk reduction plan through interactive methods + Obtain blood samples and administer all related venipuncture procedures, including finger sticks, handling of blood products, packing and shipping of specimens and proper precautionary procedures for disposal of medical waste + Provide referrals for appropriate medical, preventive and psycho-social support services, both internal and external + Conduct screenings, brief intervention, intake and assessment, PrEP education, & PrEP counseling. + Facilitate linkage to care and navigation services for clients interested in PrEP, as well as supportive services to address identified barriers, such as lack of health insurance, for clients interested in beginning PrEP. + Facilitate linkage to care and navigation services for people newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and people living with HIV/AIDS who are interested in re-engaging in medical care. + Create a safe, professional and welcoming space for members of the target population at the Testing Center and offsite testing events. + Provide support to clients to increase their understanding and awareness of HIV transmission risks, risk reduction, behavior change, and self-efficacy skills to negotiate high-risk situations and environments. + Maintain related records and reports from all program activities in accordance with established policies and procedures. + Ensure adherence to client confidentiality procedures as governed by HIPPA and GMHC confidentiality policies and procedures. + Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Other Responsibilities The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor: + Attend trainings as needed or indicated by supervisory staff for professional development. Requirements Education and Certification + High School Diploma or its educational equivalent required. Special Skills and Knowledge In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following: + Accurate knowledge of HIV & AIDS, STIs, PrEP/PEP, and other sexual health topics. + Knowledge of harm reduction and sex-positive strategies and interventions. + Experience conducting linkage to care services. + A commitment to providing effective and comprehensive support to priority populations (gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men; transgender & gender non-conforming individuals). + Ability to interact comfortably with individuals and organizations; familiarity with LGBTQ community in NYC is strongly preferred. + Excellent written and oral communication. + Ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks with varying deadlines. + Proven ability to work as a team member and independently, with limited supervision. + Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, and perform data entry into a variety of systems with attention to detail and minimal errors Salary Description $45,000 per year
