Home Base Crisis Intervention (HBCI) Specialist

As a Home Based Crisis Intervention (HBCI) Specialist, you will support families and youth in crisis by providing in-home services.  You will assist families in implementing behavior management techniques and crisis de-escalation skills with their children and support children in appropriately communicating their needs.  You will report into the HBCI Team Lead and work onsite with community-based travel required.

The HBCI team provides short-term (up to 6 weeks), intensive intervention to youth and families who are in crisis.  We work with parents and caregivers to help them help their children.  The short-term format means the work is fast-paced and outcome oriented, which means that the HBCI team will produce meaningful outcomes in a short period of time.

Responsibilities:

Respond to on-call needs of families in crisis and deliver crisis intervention services in home-based environment with flexible scheduling cognizant of family needs, with 24/7 availability nights, weekends and holidays. Promote safety of the child, family, and community in the delivery of crisis intervention services. Tailor services and flexibly schedule sessions based on family members needs. Conduct comprehensive assessment of family strengths, values, skills, problems, needs, barriers to goal attainment and collaborate in goal setting and service planning. Use a variety of teaching methods to help family members acquire, maintain and generalize skills. Advocate for and provide concrete services and supports and teach family members to meet their concrete needs. Collaborate and advocate with formal and information community resources and systems that impact family while teaching family members to advocate for themselves. Prepare family for transition and service closure. Provide consultation to intra-agency service providers and to community service providers. Maintain appropriate liaisons and relationships with external and internal providers, as this relates to County Mental Health Departments working with the HBCI. Fulfill all program-reporting requirements. Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement process and provide leadership in the collection of data and the formulation of recommendations and conclusions as assigned.

Requirements and Education:

A Bachelor's degree in human services, or Master's degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling and at least two years of experience in a home-based and/or crisis intervention services program.  LMSW or LMHC licensure is preferred. Experience in the Homebuilder model of crisis intervention is preferred. Must have a valid NYS Drivers License.
