Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Burbank Homeless Storage and Navigation Center, the Coordinator assists program participants with storage and retrieval of personal belongings.  The Storage Attendant will assist in maintaining documentation in accordance with all regulatory and internal program policies, contract requirements, including weekly progress/case notes, data entry and paperwork.

Essential Functions

Provide professional support, compassionate and safe care for all program participants. All duties will be performed in a respectful manner, allowing participants to maintain a healthy sense of self-worth. High levels of responsibility, dependability, and positive attitude. Display professionalism in relation to clients, fellow employees, and community contacts. Assist program participants with storage bin program enrollment process. Keep participant’s storage bins always organized and client records confidential and secure. As needed remove, bagged and shelve participants belongings from storage bin for “packout”. Inspect participant belongings to ensure no hazardous materials, food, liquid, waste, needles, pets, illegal items, or anything that is prohibited under the Rules and Terms are stored in the program. Explain rules and procedures to participants and ensure adherence to policies in a respectful manner. Assist with feeding program for participants. Assist in maintaining storage center records and participant files in order and provide copies as needed. Document and report unusual occurrences, incidents and injuries to management immediately. As needed, assist the Storage Coordinator with participants’ necessary documents by obtaining identification documents and/or other to expedite linkage to other services. Maintain the upkeep of the program to meet a high standard of cleanliness and organization. This includes clean up areas, empty trash cans after program is finished. Ensure and follow professional code of ethics. Maintain an appropriate inventory of equipment and supplies. Perform all other duties as assigned by Corps Officers.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.  Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.  Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. May be exposed to all weather conditions.  May be required to work in various temperatures within the facility and outside.

Minimum Qualifications    

Must pass criminal background check to be eligible for employment. High School Diploma or GED required, college degree and/or prior work experience related to Social Work is preferred. Computer proficient; able to use computerized database system. Must be supportive of The Salvation Army’s Christian mission and philosophy and complete required Salvation Army trainings.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Must be non-judgmental regarding issues with homelessness, mental health illness, substance abuse, etc. Ability to carry out assignments independently and strong time management skills. Excellent human relations/communication skills; ability to act in a professional manner regardless of circumstances. Ability to self-motivate and organize time effectively Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor participants behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
