Interns will conduct broad policy research and quantitative and qualitative research related to housing in Boise, with a likely focus on residents’ experiences of health and safety issues and housing quality. This will require interviewing residents, housing providers, and staff at service-providing nonprofits. Interns will provide relevant policy recommendations in the form of a written report and a presentation for relevant stakeholders at the conclusion of their internship. This position is designated as At-Will. Essential Functions Required Knowledge and Experience: + Strong interest in issues related to housing. Knowledge and experience in a housing-related field is a plus, but not required. + Experience in policy advocacy, analysis, and research within the government or non-profit sector. + Flexibility and strong time management skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and implement multiple projects simultaneously and to manage tight deadlines and unexpected tasks as they arise. + Excellent written and oral communication experience as well as the ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources. + Experience working with diverse community partners and a proven track record of successful, mutually respectful relationships within a professional network. Requirements Internship Requirements: To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be: + Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university + Pursuing studies in public policy, social work, public health, or a related field + Be able to work 20 hours per week. + Be able to commit to the entire internship program Application Process: To apply for the City of Boise Internship Program, please submit the following materials: + Resume + Cover letter Working Conditions The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
