Oversee execution of HMS government/community relations; marine activities and safety; and facilities management and capital planning. Anticipate and manage the interactions of these critical operational lines. Develop and direct an internal and external outreach strategy and act as the primary representative of HMS. Engage local, regional, and state regulatory and governance bodies. Manage and grow HMS’s strategic partnerships with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Naval Postgraduate School. Develop a local network of key stakeholders that can advance the station’s missions. Collaborate with the Stanford Office of Government Affairs and the Land, Buildings, and Real Estate (LBRE) Land Use team to gain approval for facilities improvements and construction projects. Collaborate with faculty and the Stanford Office of Development to tell the HMS story. Analyze existing HMS policies; make revisions and address policy gaps where necessary. Supervise the station facilities manager. Work with LBRE on implementation of the service level agreement and collaborate with LBRE project managers on HMS construction projects. Provide leadership in collaboration with faculty on marine operations and safety to develop the station and its marine fleet in support of world class marine research.
