Summary
SUMMARY: Under general direction, to perform the more skilled floor maintenance and janitorial work; to work in or supervise a small crew moving and assembling furniture; to drive quarter-ton or half-ton trucks on hospital grounds; and to do related work as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Thoroughly strip accumulated wax from floors, using solvents if necessary; bleach cement floors by preparing and applying bleaching solution; using power buffer and rinsing and drying floors; machine-scrubs and waxes floors.
2. Specialized cleaning tasks of shampooing rugs, carpets, and upholstery.
3. Washed windows, walls and ceiling using safety-belts, platforms, ladders up to 12 feet, and pressurized wall-washing machines as necessary.
4. Supervises a small crew of housekeeping workers to move and assemble hospital furniture and put up bedside curtains, shades and other furnishings in prepare a ward or other quarters for occupancy.
5. Makes, repairs and installs roller shades.
6. Keeps records of work done.
7. Cleans vinyl and unusual composition floors and walls.
8. May exercise lead responsibility over Housekeeping workers or over other Hospital Maintenance Porters in Housekeeping and use power tools in skilled building maintenance and fabrication work at Fairmont Hospital.
9. Performs routine and more complex cleaning duties in areas which follow sterile or aseptic procedure and technique; Delivery, Nursery, Isolation and Operating Rooms and ice machines on wards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: I have one year of experience in the class of Housekeeping Worker. Or II Two years of recently, paid experience in a janitorial class is comparable to that of a housekeeping worker. Or III Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience.
