SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

A hospitalists will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients while working independently and collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team. A Hospitalist provides direct in-patient care to patients in a hospital setting. Coordinates all aspects of care for hospitalized medical patients This position requires strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Experience:

MD/DO Degree, NJ & PA licenses. Board certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Family or Internal Medicine or board-eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

3 + years of post graduate training from an accredited family medicine or internal medicine residency program; 3+ yrs. of experience practicing as a primary care physician preferred

DEA, CDS (NJ Only)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSExamine, diagnose, and treat hospitalized patients. Evaluation of patients in the Emergency Room, following them into the appropriatecare setting, including Critical Care Units, Maternity, Observation,Medical/Surgical or Telemetry Inpatient Units, hospice level beds, sub-acute oracute level beds, Psychiatric Inpatients units, or any area that a patient may requirecare.Direct, coordinate, or supervise the patients care activities of nursing or supportstaff.Work in collaboration to support the operations and management of the operationsof short stay or specialty units such as Pre-admission testing, Observations, orSurge Units.Work in collaboration to support the operations and management of the operationsof transitional care service sites such as rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, andpost -acute care clinics.Refer patients to medical specialists, social services, or to other professionals asappropriate.Follow up on recommendations made by consultants as indicated.Coordinate medical care, performing tasks to ensure that patient’s medicalneeds are met.Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians.Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge andskills.Active participation in quality improvement initiatives. This can occur byinvolvement in hospital based committees, project leadership, or pilot programsthat are intended to advance the care of patients.Role in training and mentoring residents and allied health providers.a. Adhere to the standards of faculty education when on resident services.b. Collaborate and oversee the care provided by allied health providers. Alladmission and discharges shall be seen by the attending physicians, withappropriate co-signatures/documentation.Manage the resuscitation team including leading Code Blue’s, Rapid ResuscitationTeam and perform all necessary interventions required by these. Hospitalists are tobe AHA, ACLS certified. Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and participate in meetings thatfacilitate the care of patients including but not limited to family meetings, andinterdepartmental meetings
