Hourly Maintenance Supervisor

Supervises the daily activities of skilled maintenance personnel and assists with maintenance project work as assigned. Provides leadership in safety, quality, housekeeping and cost reduction. Promotes positive employee relations throughout the maintenance organization. Supervisor is held accountable to ensure maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, policies, and procedures. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance routines in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems.
• Directly supervise the hourly skilled maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, utilities, etc
• Communicate expectations, measure and assess employee performance, provide coaching and development opportunities of maintenance crews.
NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION:
• Provides input into planning and scheduling of projects.
• Responsible for planning, evaluating, organizing, and implementing assigned installation, maintenance and repair activities and coordinating with other departments to assure minimum downtime for production and maximum safety of employees.
• Performs root cause analysis as well as implements sustainable countermeasures on losses related to maintenance.
• Ensures Preventive Maintenance (PM) is accomplished in a timely manner and are to a high standard of quality.
• Be an active member of the Reliability pillar and manage project work related to it.
• Protect confidential information as directed.
• Work with Maintenance Manager to develop PM’s that drive improved reliability.
• Develops and maintains standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions.
• Maintains records of plant and individual equipment performance.
• Responsible for improving the reliability of the production equipment.
• Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
• Conduct monthly SMAT Audits and weekly PM audits.
• Ensure direct reports are up to date on concerns and observations.
• Address and close out assigned concerns in a timely manner.
• Be available to respond to after- hours calls and come in during off shifts if necessary. • Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.
• Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
• Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position JSA and SOP’s.
• Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.Requires a technical diploma or degree in the fields of engineering or manufacturing, including; mechanical, electrical, industrial that provides a thorough knowledge of the skills utilized in manufacturing improvement activities. Equivalent experience will be considered. Requires change management, methodical/analytical problem solving and employee leadership skills with the ability to effectively apply those skills in a manufacturing facility in a leadership capacity. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization. High level of knowledge and understanding of computer systems and programs, especially proficient in Microsoft Office applications, e-mail and Internet access navigation. Supervisory experience and 5-7 prior years of related work experience in a lean manufacturing environment preferred. 5+ years of experience building and leading teams with a track record of success, along with the ability to develop and implement action plans. Working knowledge of electrical systems a plus. Ability to lead small to medium sized cross functional teams under high pressure environments. Demonstrated high performance history, proven ability to execute and get results. Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001, is a plus, including continual improvement tools such as Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, vision acuity to see details within a few feet of an observer, accepting of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations, sensitivity to other’s needs, positive demeanor, and model change management for the business. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is frequently required to lift, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk and hear.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas. Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, buggies, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.Knowledge and understanding of all plant maintenance operations. They are to provide the technical leadership to effectively manage the electrical maintenance operations to achieve maximum operating and service efficiencies within cost and quality standards and in compliance with all state and federal requirements. Maintain effective teamwork and utilize innovation to achieve departmental goals. Ensures the continuity of production by effective communication with other production departments, Maintenance Department and Engineering.
