HOURLY - Pipefitter

Job Description:

General Description

Performs all pipefitting work necessary to construct new or maintain and repair existing piping systems.Services industrial heat treat, material handling, pumping, filtration, and distribution systems.

General Requirements

Lays out, fabricates, installs, maintains, alters, tests, diagnoses trouble and repairs water, waste, gas, steam, acid, fuel, air and oil lines. Cuts, threads, fits, aligns, caulks and covers piping, as required, in accordance with blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions. Uses all types of hand tools common to the trade, such as, pipe wrenches, cutters, reamers, caulking tools, levels, etc., and such equipment as, threading machines, cutting torches, sewer augers, etc. Handles materials manually or with the aid of material handling equipment.Attaches pipes to walls, structures or fixtures using brackets and clamps, tools, etc.Works from blueprints, sketches, written and oral instructions.Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.Works within the computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) completing work orders, documenting work performed and requisitioning parts.Performs any duties incidental to the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment. Basic hand and power tools are to be supplied by candidate.Must be able to work independently or in team environment.May be required to train fellow tradespeople.

Required Qualifications      

Must have completed a formal apprenticeship OR have 8 years of equivalent experience to qualify as a Journeyman.Must have knowledge of shop math and be able to read, interpret and work from blueprints.Must have extensive knowledge of the layout and construction of industrial piping systems.Must be able to perform heavy lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

Welding certifications.Experience with pneumatic systems.

Working Conditions and Hazards

Must be able to qualify and pass the company in plant power vehicle physical examination.Must be able to qualify to access/work on the roof and/or elevated heights.Must be able to wear a respirator and any other required PPE.Must work both inside and outside of building in all kinds of weather. May be required to work in cramped positions or from ladders, in oils and greases, etc.Requires a considerable amount of walking and ladder climbing.Frequently works near rapidly moving machinery.Normal welding conditions involve heat, glare, fumes, etc.May be exposed to harmful material and/or chemicals, such as lead based paint, asbestos, etc.
