House Supervisor

Position Summary The House Supervisor is a registered nurse who is able to demonstrate independence, leadership and critical thinking skills while supporting the philosophy and goals of GPRMC. A significant portion of time is spent in problem solving by focusing on the house wide coordination of resources with patient flow, and responding to emergent care situations. The HS represents hospital administration in their absence. Minimum Qualifications Education Graduate of nursing program. BSN/BA preferred. Credentials Current NE RN license or compact state license. BLS, ACLS required. Completion of CPI training required. Either PALS, ENPC or PEARS preferred. Physical Demands Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs. Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision. Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects. Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone. May require periodic use of personal computer. Essential Functions Serves as liaison between nursing staff, medical staff and other hospital departments. Coordinates with other nursing management and hospital administration to provide for nursing care on an 24x7 basis. Manages daily situations/problems encountered on the assigned shift and reports actions and recommendations to the Department Director(s). Procures supplies and equipment in the absence of other departments. Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for the practice of all aspects of patient care during worked hours. Rounds on all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support to caregivers. Maintains patient rights and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Coordinates with Organ Procurement Organization/s, care givers and families to facilitate organ donation opportunities. Collaborates with nursing department directors to ensure that staffing and assignments on each individual unit is carried out to the wishes of the Department Director(s) and when necessary provides updates and reviews in the performance of individual staff members to Department Director(s). Collaborates with employee health, infection control, and other departments and in their absence perform tasks and duties per facility policy per these departments direction.
