Job Description

Purpose
Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) job descriptions are a management tool to help organize duties and provide employees with the employer’s expectations with regard to a specific job classification. Job Summary
Accomplishes department objectives by maintaining a clean, organized, and appealing work environment at each facility, understanding AAAHC Standards and State and Federal regulations, and ensuring compliance with all laws.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
+ Cleans Clinic public areas, patient waiting room, offices, exam/treatment rooms, lavatories, staff room, hallways, and conference rooms;
+ General cleaning includes but is not limited to vacuuming, mopping, washing carpets/floors/windows/handrails/doorknobs;
+ All refuse, trash, and garbage shall be collected and removed from facility(s);
+ Biohazard waste will be disposed of appropriately by clinic staff;
+ All glass doors and windows will be cleaned as needed;
+ Aid other staff as time allows, including supply/equipment delivery and other duties that support the KIC mission;
+ Prior to Clinic opening, cleans Medical Records, Reception area, Conference Room, and Medical Director’s office;
+ Each workday morning, the Pharmacy will be cleaned after the Pharmacy staff arrives per security regulations as follows:
+ Pharmacy requires pharmacists to be present, with no exceptions. Employees will not enter a vacant area at any time.
+ Floors will be damp mopped as appropriate.
+ Waste containers will be emptied, and new liners will be placed.
+ All horizontal surfaces will be cleaned, and chromium will be polished.
+ Sink area will be cleaned and disinfected.
+ Paper towels and soap dispensers will be cleaned and filled.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
+ Minimum of six months of experience in basic housekeeping and cleaning, disinfectant use, and hazardous waste handling is required.
+ A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may substitute for education and experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.
+ Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, except as approved in writing by the Tribal Administrator.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ A year of experience in basic housekeeping and cleaning, disinfectant use, and hazardous waste handling.
+ Experience in community clinic preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.
+ Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.
+ Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
+ Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
+ Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
+ Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
+ Knowledge of appropriate use and application of cleaning solutions and solvents.
+ Knowledge of infection control regulations,
+ Ability to handle weights and loads.
+ Ability and dexterity to use equipment safely.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually average.
Use of chemical disinfectants when necessary, and handle hazardous waste appropriately and according to safety regulations.
Conditions of Hire
+ May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC’s company insurance.
+ KIC is a Drug-Free Workplace. All employees must adhere to KIC drug and alcohol policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Employees must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for-cause drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
+ KIC has several positions that must comply with the P.L. 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until KIC has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
