Responsibilities

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: 

Works under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor.  The housekeeping aide cleans and maintains assigned areas of the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition to promote a clean and healthy environment for all employees, patients, and guests in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the hospital.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clean assigned patient rooms and their contents in accordance with departmental standards.  Clean other assigned rooms and common areas in accordance with departmental standards.Demonstrate willingness to perform additional assignments.Attend departmental meeting and in-services as assigned.Collect soiled linens and equipment from patient care and hospital operations areas and distribute them to appropriate cleaning area:Collect and dispose of trashDispose of garbage and handle linens in isolation rooms.Operate various cleaning machinery in accordance with manufacturers guidelines to perform stripping, cleaning, waxing, and buffing tasks.Mix detergents and germicidal solutions according to manufacturers directions.  Follow safety practices as outlined in material safety data sheets.Practice infection control practice throughout daily activities.Report items and areas needing repairs/maintenance to supervisor within 2 hours of observation.Respond to emergencies or problems in accordance with department procedure or policy.
Qualifications

Education: Literacy - ability to understand and complete written and verbal instructions.
