Summary Functions as the Housekeeping Aid Leader to Housekeeping Aids assigned to their team for the Environmental Management Service. This is a working position that includes daily assignments to ensure the workload is accomplished. They are the support to the supervisor. Duty station will be John Cochran and/or Jefferson Barracks Division, however it may change based on the needs of the health care system. Responsibilities Leads a team of 5-15 employees performing work at the WG-2 level. Provides guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the team while taking an active part in accomplishing the team's goals through daily participation in work. Works with the supervisor in the assignment of functions to all Housekeeping Aids on his/her team in order to meet routine and unusual deadlines and priorities. Serves as work leader assuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees. Visually examine items for damage, deterioration, or imperfections such as rust, pitting, and cracks of equipment utilized in connection with the job. Operates janitorial equipment to determine whether it operates correctly after re-assembly. Promptly reports malfunctioning or damaged equipment for repair. Determines methods or devises new processes when traditional practice is not sufficient. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed i.e. assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly. Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written direction. Must have an understanding of the basic principles of microbiology as they apply to housekeeping operations, especially as they relate to the resistance of microorganisms to external destructive agents. Knowledgeable of cleaning principles and techniques including, different cleaning chemicals and methods, storage, and shelf-life characteristics. Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30am, 11:00pm-7:30am, with possible weekends and holidays and rotating tours, based on the needs of the service and medical center. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials. Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
