This position will serve as an important member of the Rapid Rehousing and Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program and maintains knowledge of tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities, fair housing laws, housing first, and terminology used in rental\/lease agreements and will develop and maintain a network of landlords and other housing providers who are interested in leasing housing to veterans and their families, and provide assistance to SSVF clients through advocacy, client education, and crisis management when necessary to prevent housing disruption.\n
This position is community based, assisting the veterans in the cities and towns of Montana.\n
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY:\n\nDevelop and maintain relationships with Veteran-friendly landlords and property managers, advocating on behalf of SSVF participants.\nWork with participants to assess housing barriers, needs, and preferences.\nLiaison with identified collaborating organizations and vendors to mitigate barriers to housing, e.g.: credit, legal issues, rental history.\nIdentify apartment, SRO, and other appropriate housing vacancies, and travel to potential placements with participants as needed.\nIn coordination with case managers, will review housing plans and ensure they are individualized to be used as a basis for exploring and evaluating housing opportunities.\nEnsure rapid and smooth transitioning into the community, coordinating and securing rental assistance, furniture banks, moving assistance, and other community agencies before utilizing SSVF funds.\nUtilize and coordinate housing efforts with Case Managers and Housing Advocates, VA, local Housing Authorities, other programs working with homeless assistance.\nAssist with post-placement housing stabilization services via follow-up (weekly and tapering off to monthly as needed), reporting back to the team.\nWork with identified veterans who are at risk of homelessness, working with the team to provide homelessness prevention services in the area of housing advocacy.\nMaintain service notes, housing statistics and track successful SSVF services and outcomes.\nMeet weekly with SSVF Team, assisting with other tasks to ensure securing and maintaining housing.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\n\n
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:\n\nBachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work or other related field required.\nMinimum of 2 years of Case Management, Social Work, or transferable experience. \nKnowledge of local housing market in service area as well as federal, state, and local laws regarding housing and tenancy is highly valued\nDemonstrated knowledge and experience working with persons of low income, veterans preferred; must have sensitivity to veterans-related needs and issues\nMust be able to successfully pass a CORI\/Background records check.\n\n
