S:US is seeking a Housing Specialist for their Home Base homeless prevention program.
This position is located at 516 West 181st Street (St. Nicholas Ave) New York, NY 10033
The Housing Specialist will be responsible for Housing duties related to all residents’ needs.
Including interviews with clients to assess their present housing needs, submittal of appropriate
applications to community resources. Conducting groups to discuss available housing options, how to secure an apartment and how to
handle issues related to housing. Accompanies residents to housing interviews, housing fairs, and to complete housing applications
when necessary. Submits housing applications for all housing programs available (i.e. Section 8, and NYCHA).
Handles requests for extensions to be submitted to HRA. Provides housing resources (i.e. phone numbers to landlords, housing programs, etc) to clients and acts as a liaison between landlords and clients.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required. Two years in human services field and knowledge of traumaGood interpersonal skill set, able to work independently and still function as part of a multi‐ disciplinary teamSolid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in human Services or related field preferredBilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred
