DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Works Department is seeking candidates who can perform the following duties:
+ Work consists of fairly standard procedures and tasks where basic analytical ability is required, as in the comparison of numbers and simple facts in selecting the correct action.
+ Monitors and maintains surface water plant to comply with State and Federal permits.
+ Conducts field runs in the facility to collect process water sampling, performs chemical pump checks and minor maintenance and inspections on equipment.
+ Ensures plant safety and sanitary conditions, maintains plant grounds (i.e. collecting litter, housekeeping).
+ Maintains records and logs.
+ Assists providing tours.
+ Communicates and coordinates work with other operators and support personnel by radio, telephone, and e-mail.
+ Works around chemicals, wears a gas mask, stays clean shaven.
+ Drives a city vehicle, performs pre-trip inspections, performs other duties as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "D" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate within twelve (12) months from entry into this classification. Within Twenty-four (24) months after either obtaining the Class D certification or entry into this classification, a TCEQ Class "C" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate must be obtained.
