The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all employee welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and others. The position assists employees with benefits enrollment and questions, manages all insurance billing, and provides support for maintenance of employee database and benefit files.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide support for administration of various employee benefits programs, such as group health, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits. Inputs and ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in system for proper eligibility information. Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits enrollment process. Responds to benefits inquiries from managers/employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries. Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility. Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes. Assists with leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, FMLA and other LOA’s. Effectively interprets FMLA eligibility related to leaves of absences/disabilities. Assists with the open enrollment process. Maintains employee benefits files and ensures electronic enrollments are correct for payroll deduction. Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements and process billing for all group insurance plans. Resolve billing issues/administrative problems with the carrier representatives. Administer COBRA enrollments. Coordinate workers’ compensation claims with third-party administrator. Follow up on employee’s claims. Develops statistics and information in annual group insurance renewal process. Ensure distribution of required employee welfare notices. Assist in completion of benefits reporting requirements. Accountability for HR generalist support of a region of segment of the business. Handles Texas worker’s compensation non-subscriber claims – including investigation. Other duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrates HR/benefits expertise Knowledgeable of and keeps current regarding benefit compliance issues and regulatory changes and communications Maintains professional demeanor in appearance and approach at all times Highly developed listening skills Possesses dynamic written, oral, presentation and inter-personal communication capabilities Ability to build/manage relationships with all levels in the organization Able to handle confidential information and perform duties in an ethical manner at all times Organized and detail oriented Empathetic/consultative approach to resolving employee issues Works well in a dynamic environment with constantly competing priorities Demonstrated experience with MS Office products, particularly Excel Good sense of humor Capable of building data packages, analyzing the data for trends, and presenting findings to the senior management team.Education and Experience:
Associates Degree or equivalent experience required Bachelor’s degree in HR/related field or equivalent work experience preferred Four years’ concentrated experience in HR/benefits administration in a HR generalist position.
