The primary responsibility of this role is to manage all aspects of HR Compliance for The Michaels Organization. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert in the area of HR Compliance. This role will manage the design, implementation and communication of programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role will partner with various key internal and external stakeholders and partners to maintain compliance with relevant employment-related laws and legislation, internal/external audits and ensure risk is mitigated. Responsible for managing all HR compliance and reporting activities for the organization, including but not limited to EEO-1 and Specific state filings, Immigration, I-9/E-Verify as well as manage federal, state, and local labor law postings.

Responsibilities

Internal Policies and Procedures:

Responsible for the governance and oversight of The Michael Organizations HR Policies and Procedures ensuring they are compliant with applicable employment/labor laws, regulations and industry standards.
Drives HR process & policy owners and stakeholders to ensure that HR policies and processes follow applicable current employment/labor laws, including updating and/or developing new policies, sharing information and training HR team members as needed, collaborating with other involved departments and updating the Michaels Employee HandbookEngages in strategic long-term planning by developing goals for the HR compliance function recommending procedural improvements in compliance practicesResearch and anticipate future policy/practice needs and provide recommendations to HR and leadership as appropriate.Oversee the workplace employment law poster process and communications, ensuring workplace employment poster compliance for all locations.

Employment Law Legislation:

In partnership with our Legal counsel, identify changes in the legal landscape for upcoming and pending legislations and identify impacts and recommendations to leadership.

EEO Compliance & Audits:

Manage the company’s audit response and requests for information, responding on behalf of company, and liaise with various agency officials during establishment reviews and audits.

Develops schedule of audits for selected HR practices and processes to ensure compliance and identify and address potential compliance risks

Conducts scheduled audits and works with HR and business teams to implement the recommendations, remediation and action plans resulting from audits

Risk Management:

Conduct periodic and cyclical audits to assess risk and the effectiveness of HR Programs in meeting compliance standards. Lead mitigation strategies, changes, and recommendations as appropriate. Assist in the development of corrective action plans when areas of opportunity are identified in audits/reviews.Provides actionable Metrics/Reporting design to drive overall compliance, process improvement initiatives and business value through information and consultingProvide interpretation and guidance to HR Operations and Centers of Expertise on proper applicability and implementation of policies/practices.

HR Compliance Reporting/Research:

Manage compliance reporting processes. Performs complex research, in-depth analysis of current practices and evaluate/escalate for potential downstream impacts.

Training:

In partnership with our learning center of expertise and vendors recommend training courses, communications, and guidance to educate employees, managers and HR on policies, procedures, processes, and compliance requirements

 

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• 7-10 plus years Human Resource experience with a minimum of 3-5 years in a compliance focused role.
• Extensive knowledge of all Human Resources areas including employment law, labor laws, EEO, and other compliance mandates and ensure compliance with various state and federal laws and/or agencies
• Up to date and working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, understanding and experience with core aspects of Human Resources.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate concepts into actionable items.
• Prior experience working in an HR capacity executing compliance reporting and audits preferred.
• Experience with working on large complex projects that have enterprise-wide impact and requires subject matter expertise of process improvement areas and process improvement tools.


Required Education/Training:

• Bachelors in a related field or equivalent experience PHR/SPHR certification preferred.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Manage advanced reporting capabilities within the company’s HRMS system, with the ability to analyze, interpret and present meaningful data to senior leadership team.
• Manage complex issues, competing priorities and at times competing stakeholders in a fast and ever-changing environment – with a positive and collaborative attitude.
• Ability to work well independently and cross-functionally.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving techniques and ability to effectively present information for various audiences including executives.
• Sound judgment, analytical ability and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HR software.
• In-depth knowledge of employment laws, EEO regulations, and affirmative action guidelines.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

 

 

Salary Range Information:

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the targeted base salary for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
