HR Discrimination Investigator, Workplace Equity & Inclusion ( Hybrid Local )

This position is HyBrid and requires weekly onsite meetings.   The HR Discrimination Investigator, Investigator, Workplace Equity & Inclusion is responsible for managing an array of investigative and compliance-related activities on behalf of the Office of Workplace Equity and Inclusion. This individual works independently, and initiates and/or performs investigative activities, as directed. The individual effectively administers the University’s equal employment opportunity policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the University’s continuous efforts in providing equal access and adherence to applicable laws. This individual will design and conduct related trainings on various topics, such as diversity awareness, employment laws, and other EO/diversity issues. This individual will also be responsible for facilitating and developing strategies to improve supervisor/employee relations, manage complaint processes, including receiving investigating, analyzing, and making recommendations; assist in compiling information and writing responses/investigative findings for internal and external complaints. 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

1.    Prepares investigative plans identifying the bases and issues involved, including, but not limited to: the scope of the investigation; potential sources of evidence; individuals to be interviewed; etc. 
2.     Investigates internal and external complaints/charges involving discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation within established timeline. 
3.    Prepares responses to external charges and internal complaints for review and approval by supervisor. 
4.    Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of job-related legislation, regulations and guidance in order to provide professional consultation and assistance to managers, supervisors, employees, faculty and students. 
5.    Provides support, guidance and training to individuals on employee relations, diversity and equal opportunity topics. Also, train HR partners on proper investigation practices. Supports the roll-out of training of new HR policies. 
6.    Manages and administers a broad range of tasks, including resolving complaints, counseling individuals on University’s policies and procedures. 
7.    Assists in administering the University’s Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action programs. 
8.    Liaises with other functional units within Human Resources, including Client Services, Recruitment, Records, Talent and Organizational Development, Compensation, Payroll, and Benefits on various matters. 
9.    Assists in the management of the department’s case management system, including the entry, follow-up and closure of case files in an accurate and compliant manner. 
10.    Performs cross-functional department projects, as assigned. 
11.    Conducts all aspects of the job with appropriate level of confidentiality and sensitivity to employee and organizational data by storing documents carefully and disclosing confidential information only on a need-to-know basis.
12.    Represents the department before various groups and entities, as assigned.
13.    Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Master’s degree in relevant field required.  Juris Doctor (J.D.) preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in conducting employment discrimination investigations, or comparative experience and/or education.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment

Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
