HR Specialist 3 - Employee Relations and Retention Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under broad supervision, the Employee Relations and Retention Specialist provides specialized services to the Human Resources department.

 

·         This position reports to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for duties related to employee relations, training, and retention. 

 

·         Assists with various projects as needed. 

 

 

 

Job Description / Essential Functions:

·         Serves as the first point of contact on all employee relation issues associated with the Agency.

·         Guides and works directly with management on ER matters, including counseling consultations, reviewing, and overseeing written performance actions and performance improvement plans. 

·         Works to ensure that performance matters are addressed and resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.

·         Strives to foster and improve a positive relationship between employee and employer.

·         Counsels and advises employees on management and performance issues brought to their attention.

·         Maintains ER log of all concerns.

·         Manages and maintains the Exit Interview process and submits required weekly, monthly, and annual reports.  Identifies trends and reports findings to the Director of HR

·         Responds to all DOL inquiries, claims, and hearings.

Attends disciplinary meetings as the HR representative, as needed including being present for all final action meetings. 

·         Researches, develops, sets up logistics, and delivers various training to management and staff on designated topics, including but not limited to employee relations, retention, and professional development.

Oversees and manages required State-mandated training for the staff.

Other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

·         Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of related experience

·         Extensive knowledge of employment laws, Federal and State Laws, and GA State Personnel Board Rules 

·         Minimum of two years of experience handling Employee Relations matters 

·         Minimum of two years experience working as an HR professional for the State of Georgia

·         Experience developing and delivering presentations too small to large groups.

·         PeopleSoft experience 

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) 

·         Must have 1 year of experience running PS queries and reports and can analyze data and create reports from the data.

·         Excellent multitasking and organizational skills

·         Excellent communication skills

 

 

 

Physical Demands:

·         Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to two-thirds of the time and stand for long periods when delivering a presentation.

·         Will be required to occasionally lift and carry loads up to 30 lbs. and move around tables and chairs to accommodate the appropriate training room setup.

·         Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and documents to ensure accuracy.

·         Position requires the ability to perform data entry functions, and operate office equipment such as a laptop, phone, calculator, copier, and printer.

Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND One year of related professional human resources experience in one or more of the areas of assignment OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND Three years of related professional human resources experience in one or more of the areas of assignment OR One year of experience required at the lower level HR Spec 2 (HRP021) or position equivalent.
