In the high school division, students are challenged to reach their full potential, ask essential questions, and wrestle with complex ideas, working to solve real-world problems, and participate in the interconnected global community. Requirements of all faculty: Faculty must be academically prepared and highly effective at teaching and designing curriculum for a rotating block course schedule of three 80-minute periods per six-day cycle, along with a weekly tutorial period for additional individual or small group instruction. Faculty must be adept at using technology for teaching and learning, and supporting students. In addition to teaching their core academic classes, all faculty teach in our Lab Studies program, focused on inquiry-driven, project-based, experiential real-world learning. Faculty also serve as advisors in small advisory groups that meet daily. Advisors are responsible for supporting, advising, and mentoring students through their four years of high school, helping them to understand themselves as learners and to lead their fall and spring family conferences, and to contribute to student life and the school community.   We work in a team-based structure with a high level of communication and collegiality. Active participation in a faculty culture of continuous learning, professional development, and intellectual growth is expected and supported. Opportunities are available to coach, direct, and lead activities in the extracurricular program, in which all students are encouraged to participate. About the Position The High School Dean of Students will assist the Head of the High School Division and Assistant Head of the High School Division in the leadership of the High School. This position reports to the Head of the High School. The responsibilities of the High School Dean of Students  include the following: + Serve as a member of the high school leadership team to support students, families, faculty, and advisors. This includes participating in weekly Deans Meetings, taking part in conversations about students in weekly Guidance Committee meetings, weekly check-ins with the Head of High School, and a Deans’ Retreat at the end of the school year; + Promote a positive school culture by demonstrating visible, active leadership in the daily life of the school, including during the daily routines of arrival, dismissal, lunch, and break times as well as at major divisional and school functions and events such as those that occur beyond the school day; + Organize and lead school-wide events and initiatives that enhance community engagement, including planning and executing community meetings, organizing and overseeing House activities, and ensuring appropriate supervision for all events (e.g., dances, House Olympics); + Lead the high school advisory program, including developing programming for students and advisors, onboarding and supporting advisors in partnership with Class Deans, and overseeing budgeting and purchasing for advisories. Develop and implement programs that encourage character development, leadership skills, and social-emotional learning; + Serve as the faculty advisor to Student Government and the Student Activities Committee;  + Reinvigorate the service-learning program, providing both philosophical leadership and logistical management; + Support the clubs program in partnership with the Office of Community Engagement (OCE), including supervision of external club coaches (e.g., debate, chess); + Manage and encourage field trips, ensuring we are making optimal use of city as classroom; + Monitor student attendance, identify patterns of concern, and collaborate with students, families, advisors, and Deans to develop intervention strategies; + Read and offer feedback on grades and comments four times per year; + Based on background and prior experience, partner to develop family-facing programming on health and wellness topics, including the possibility of leading workshops or coordinating with outside experts; + In conjunction with school administration, interview and evaluate applicants for administrative and teaching positions, as needed; + Maintain accurate list of internships offered to high school students on Gracenet; + Serve as a member of the Disciplinary Committee; + Additional roles and duties as assigned by the Head of High School. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or higher in teaching subject area or educational leadership preferred; + The strongest candidates will have a background in health and wellness; + Capacity to lead groups through processes that reimagine, reinvent, and reframe practices; + Technologically proficient and adaptable, with strong organizational skills; + Excellent writer and public speaker; + A culturally competent and empathetic leader committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusivity; + An experienced educational leader who values all facets of a student’s education, including academics, athletics, arts, and experiential learning; + Proven experience in establishing and supporting effective relationships with faculty and staff; + A collaborative leader who leverages the insights and talents of administrators, faculty, and staff; + A strategic thinker and effective problem solver with tact, flexibility, and compassion; + Proven classroom teaching experience and a belief in the potential of all students; + Reflective and growth-oriented, with a professional approach to leadership; + A strong understanding of adolescent development and a passionate approach to working with adolescents; + An ability to balance kindness and compassion with practices that instill student accountability. Reporting: This position reports to the Head of the High School Division. Compensation This is a full-time, 12-month role. The base salary range is $125-165, commensurate with education and experience. The High School Dean of Students  teaches two major academic courses as well as two Lab Studies courses on Wednesdays, over the course of the year.
