MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Safety Supervisor is a key member of the Waco safety team and provides leadership and guidance regarding the application of occupational health & safety practices. This role performs a variety of technical and administrative work in planning, organizing, directing and implementing safety initiatives and procedures to establish safety culture and continually improve mill safety performance.

The Safety Supervisor provides technical expertise and support for safety programs including regulatory knowledge and interpretation, risk management methods, and best practices to all areas.  This role is responsible for ensuring advancement of the Waco safety program.  

 

Key Responsibilities and Job Functions: Primary job functions include, but are not limited to the following:  

Provide expert guidance and counseling on safety related issues for day-to-day mill activities by participating in safety meetings, audits, training and engaging employees Assists the Safety Manager as needed when specific regulatory issues need investigation Maintain entries into Riskonnect computer system for incidents, hazard mitigations, audits Manage workers’ compensation program Manage SafeTK computer-based program for Lockout Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work Maintain, organize, and report safety KPIs including leading and lagging indicators for measurement of mill safety performance Assists in the annual and periodic review and editing of all mill safety policies and procedures Attend and present safety information at staff meetings, contractor safety meetings, etc. Investigates accidents, develops corrective and preventive actions, promotes health and safety-conscious work performance. Develop and implement corrective actions, maintain certifications as required to support safety programs and training system Develop training and conduct safety and health training courses including site specific training Manage the contractor safety program, conduct contractor safety training, and audit contractor safety processes Participates in developing plans and delivering results in a fast-changing business and regulatory environment by participating in Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Division Health and Safety initiatives to drive process improvements. Participates in audits, hazard identification, and risk reduction across the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Actively participates in machine outages to oversee the health and safety aspects of the process Assists the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility Division with health and safety efforts during construction (requires additional travel through 2025) Other duties as assigned

 

Background:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in health and safety or related field Minimum 6+ years health and safety experience Possesses broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities. Paper manufacturing experience preferred.

 

Required Skills:

Extensive knowledge with Microsoft programs (excel, word, PowerPoint) Familiarity with HSE data management system (i.e., Gensuite, Intelex, VelocityEHS, Enablon, ProcessMap, EHS Insight, Riskonnect) 

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.  Weekend and evening on call responsibilities based on rotation. Up to 25% travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8+hours. Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs. Reading computer screen or other electronic devices. Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
