Overview:
• Plans and coordinates the implementation of plant safety and health programs in support of corporate-wide safety and health guidelines and standards in order to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
• Provide on-site leadership, guidance and assistance to plant staff in achieving superior safety, environmental and health performance.
Safety Initiatives:
• Identifies and appraises conditions which could produce safety incidents and evaluates potential extent of injuries resulting from safety incidents.
• Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
• Develops and implements safety incident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs (such as Job Safety Observations) for incorporation into operational policies of organization.
• Coordinates safety activities of department managers to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout the organization.
• Compiles, analyzes, and interprets data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and incidents and prepares reports.
• Serves as a liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, OSHA, and health care providers to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
• Manages service accounts such as fire protection, first aid supplies, audiometric testing, industrial hygiene testing, and PPE suppliers.
• Services as liaison between Corporate Health and Safety and the plant.
• Arranges for periodic testing of working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter.
• Manages safety incident investigation process to ascertain root cause(s) - for use in recommending preventive safety measures and improving the safety program.
• Develops, conducts, and/or coordinates training to promote health and safety, safe operation of equipment, and compliance with precautions and control hazards.
• Oversees the Safety Committee activities.
• Develop and implement safety and health programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local safety & health standards.
• Oversees the Safety Committee Activities
• Develops, implements, and tracks employee safety/health training in support of written programs.
• Handles all environmental reporting and systems to ensure compliance to Environmental Federal Regulations.
• Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork.
Schedule Requirements:
• Must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings and nights.
Background/Experience/Skills:
• Manufacturing experience preferred.
• High School Diploma, GED
• Bachelor’s degree preferred (preferably in environmental health and safety)
• One – two years of Safety and Environmental Management
• Experience in manufacturing environment required
• Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards with regard to general industry
• Ability to train, influence and motivate team members
• Experience with problem solving, project management, and technical writing
• Proficient with MicroSoft Office, Outlook, and internet research skills
• Experience with SAP preferred.
